- Walk to center of bridge; avoid disturbing fish until reaching survey position
- Count fish; average the numbers if more than one surveyor
- Walk to the opposite side of the bridge and repeat counting/averaging, recording the data separately
- Record: date, time of arrival and departure, air temperature, water temperature, fish numbers, and any observations (eg predators)
